Dual Credit – Accelerated OYAP

What is
Accelerated OYAP?
A program
in which a student in semester 2 of their graduating year of high school, is
registered as an apprentice, completes all or part of their Level 1 (Basic)
apprenticeship schooling in a specific trade at a college or training
institution, and earns hours/competencies towards their apprenticeship.
We offer 13 programs:
- Automotive
Service Technician (310S)
- Baking (423C)
- General Carpenter (403A)
- Child
Development Practitioner (formerly known as ECE) (620C)
- Cook (415A)
- Drywall Acoustic Mechanic and Lather (451A)
- Electrician Construction and Maintenance (309A)
- Floor Covering Installer (448A)
- Hairstyling (332A) Pending Approval
- Motorcycle Service Technician (310G
- Plumber (306A)
- Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (313A)
- Truck and Coach Technician (310T)
What are
some benefits of Accelerated OYAP?
- Students may earn up to 4
cooperative education credits and a maximum of 3 Dual Credits towards their
OSSD
- Students have the opportunity to
earn all or part of their Level 1 (Basic) training at little to no cost for the
student (for tuition)
- Students are registered apprentices
in a trade in Ontario
- Students are registered and members of the Ontario College of Trades
- Students will start earning
hours/competencies towards their apprenticeship while still in high school
Some more
details
- Students
must be at least 16 years old when applying
- Students
must be graduating in June of their Accelerated OYAP year and have all
compulsory courses and Literacy Test successfully completed
- Students
must be enrolled in a full day (4 credit) cooperative program semester 2
- Students
are strongly recommended to have their 40 hours of community service completed before
this program
